ORGANIC RANKINE CYCLE FOR
CONCENTRATED SOLAR POWER

The Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is suitable for converting the thermal energy collected by solar panels into electricity through a thermodynamic cycle with a high level of efficiency. Using ORC in a solar thermal application is a cost efficient solution for clients.

EXERGY is unique in offering the highly efficient Radial Outflow Turbine for these applications.

Using ORC for Concentrated Solar Power can reduce the cost of the reflectors being used, by allowing for Fresnel or parabolic trough, this leads to a lower overall system cost.

ADVANTAGES

The EXERGY solution for solar power generation uses the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) coupled with a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) system. This solution has many advantages including:

  • Higher flexibility than traditional steam cycles
  • Ability to produce electricity from a lower temperature heat source
  • Possibility to build a small installation (<1MWe) with the option to scale up in the future
  • Lower set up costs for the ORC and solar panels
  • Simple operation and maintenance, as with all ORC units
  • Remote control of the ORC unit
  • A straight forward authorization and permission process
