UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY FOR ISLANDS

Energy Security, heating and cooling and local economic development are among the three main challenges that islands and remote areas have to face when it comes to finding a solution for their local energy demand.

For the European Islands in particular, geothermal energy has proven to be an enforceable solution, providing a stable energy source. On this regard EGEC recently published a fact sheet, taking our Pico Alto geothermal power plant, located on the Azores islands, as main example of sustainable, affordable and efficient energy supply for the European islands and remote areas.
