SANFAME

Sanfame Group Co. Ltd., a leading producer of PTA and PET polyester, has implemented the world’s first high-efficiency ORC system of its kind at its subsidiary, Jiangyin Xingjia New Materials Co. Ltd., within the largest single production line in the polyester industry. The system utilizes a Radial Outflow Turbine to recover heat at 102°C from polyester steam, improving efficiency and sustainability.

The ORC power plant, with a total capacity of 6.4 MWe, is the largest of its kind in the industry.

Client name:
JIANGYIN XINGJIA
NEW MATERIAL CO

Plant Lcation:
JIANGYIN, CHINA

Date of implementation:
2023

Plant size:
5,8 MWe

Application:
HEAT RECOVERY (PET MANUFACTURING MILL)

Heat source:
STEAM + Non Condensable Gases (NCG)

Flow of steam + NCG:
10,4 kg/s for each ORC unit

NCG mass fraction at ORC inlet:
0,53%

Inlet temperature of steam + NCG:
102°C

Electrical generation gross:
2,9 MWe x 2 ORC units

Condensing system:
Water from cooling tower

Temperature of cooling water:
25°C

Installation:
OUTDOOR

The ORC system enhances process efficiency by replacing conventional column overhead condensers and using available heat to produce power, while also supplying additional electricity to meet manufacturing energy demands. Exergy’s ORC system leverages a tailored cycle design fully integrated into the customer’s process. Using a non-flammable working fluid, the ORC system recovers heat at 102°C with a thermoelectric efficiency of 11.22% and an isentropic turbine efficiency of 88.69%, both the highest registered in China in similar apllication. The high flexibility of the ORC cycle ensures no impact on the PET production rate, even during maintenance.
The system, with a total capacity of 5.8 MWe for two ORC units, generates carbon-free electricity, saving approximately 20,000 tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to the emissions from around 3,800 homes’ electricity use for one year. It offers numerous benefits, including higher process sustainability, low maintenance and operational costs, and short downtimes. This solution improves energy efficiency and also boosts business profitability.
