TICA Energy and Exergy proudly announce the successful results of the performance assessment on Exergy’s ORC power plant installed at Sanfame Chemical Plant in China, operational since August 2023. This achievement marks a significant advancement in energy efficiency, profitability, and environmental sustainability within the Chinese chemical industry.
During the recent press conference and power plant site visit in Jiangyin, Wuxi city, the technical committee of evaluators unanimously agreed on the positive performance of Exergy ORC power generation technology. With a heat source at 102°C, the installed ORC system at Sanfame chemical plant showcased outstanding thermoelectric efficiency of 11.22% and an isentropic turbine efficiency of 88.69%, setting new benchmarks in China.
This groundbreaking development underscores the potential for widespread adoption of low-temperature waste heat power generation across various chemical sectors in China.
Distinguished experts, including academicians Zhao Wenzhi and Chen Xuedong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Yang Limin, technical director of Sinopec Guangzhou (Luoyang) Engineering Co. Ltd were part of the evaluation committee. Key representatives from TICA, Exergy, and Sanfame Group, including Qin Peng, Chief Engineer of Sanfame Group, and Jiang Li, Chairman of TICA Group and Luca Pozzoni, General Manager of Exergy, attended the conference, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind this achievement.
By harnessing Exergy’s high-efficiency ORC system, Sanfame Group is transforming waste heat from polyester production process into clean electricity, contributing to both economic growth and environmental preservation. The installed ORC power plant, with a total capacity of 6.4 MWe, is the world’s first installation of its kind in the largest single production line in China, and the highest power generation capacity ORC unit applied to the polyester industry, promising substantial CO₂ emission reductions of approximately 20,000 tons annually.
Qin Peng praised TICA and Exergy for their professionalism and cooperation throughout the project lifecycle, highlighting the significant enhancements in power generation performance achieved post-installation. With an estimated payback time of three years, this initiative offers a promising return on investment.
